Designed by Frank Bethwaite in 1962 the Northbridge Junior was, until 2009, the only introductory class at the club.
The boats were designed to be home built from ply by an average handyman. The sail is the same cut as the Manly Junior.

The NJ is a lively junior class much loved by many. Most of the fleet is now quite old so boats are cheap to buy.
While the Optimist has largely overtaken the NJ for interclub competitiveness the NJ remains a popular choice for parents seeking an introductory boat for a few hundred dollars.
