Northbridge Optimists

  Our States Team

Team Northbridge at 2010 NSW State Titles at Northbridge

Season 2011 has opened and off to a great start. Junior Captains David and Gareth have put great efforts into our junior racing program. We have a new specialist Club Opti coach in Stuart Johnston for our Open Optis but also our home grown instructors are nuturing and building up our future open racers in Green fleet.
These instructors are doing a fabulous job.

Afternoon racing for our Open Optis is proving very popular with better winds and bigger fleets augmented with some stiff competition from MHYC Optis.

Look below for links to David and Gareth's newsletters.

"It's not about the boat."

Opti sailing is about the sailor and their growth in sailing. The Optimist is a relatively cheap introduction dinghy. Click here to read more on the Optimist and why it's the best intro boat for kids.

This boat is particularly kind to timid learners because it is very stable.    This makes the Opti an ideal training boat for the, variable, land affected sailing conditions in Middle Harbour around NSC.

More advanced sailors enjoy very competitive sailing at both club and interclub level.   There is an excellent class association and associated training programs.

The class is limited to children up to the age of 15 years.

Introduced to Northbridge in January 2009 we have a racing fleet of about 25 boats as at August 2010.

  Just In !!

Opti and NJ morning races were a terrific success with a Livein invigorated team still working on starboard, and thus some close racing. The afternoon's abandonment of Club Championship was disappointing however most of our senior Opti sailors benefited from the Teams training at MHYC. Again through the generosity and desire for mutual benefits to our Juniors, sam Webster kindly invited us to participate in the Teams Clinic.

The Southerly buster curtailed most of the sailing but not the lessons from Tom Brewer!

Next sunday the 13th sees us hosting the annual NSWIODA (Opti Association ) teams event. Come down and watch this exciting form of racing from arguably the best viewing point of any club in Australia.

The huge success of the Livein, especially thanks to Gus, our Youth Instructors and parents has pushed us to over 30 Optis making us again probably the biggest actively sailing  Opti Clubs in NSW.
