What is an incident?
This is guidance only. For example a splinter arising from failure to wear shoes may require first aid, but may not be a reportable incident. Please use good judgement.
Types of Incidents
- Personal Injury: Any harm to a sailor, coach, volunteer, or visitor that needs first aid or a doctor.
- Property Damage: Damage to club boats, private boats, pontoon or ramps, or rescue craft.
- Collisions: Boats hitting each other, or marks, not resolved by penalties under the Racing Rules of Sailing; or the shore.
- Rescues: Swamped boats or situations where people need help from safety crews beyond capsize recovery assitance.
- Missing Persons: A sailor not returning on time or missing after a race.
- Pollution: Fuel spills or toxic waste dumped in the water near the club.
Near Misses
- Close Calls: Events that almost caused an injury or crash, but did not.
- Gear Failures: Broken rigs that nearly led to a major problem.
Rules and Safety Breaches
- Rule Violations: Breaking racing rules that cause high risk or dangerous situations.
- Behavior Issues: Fighting, bullying, unsafe conduct, or breaking club code of conduct rules.
